Five makeup / beauty essentials for your handbag

As a freelance makeup artist I understand what it is to have perfect makeup all day – it’s actually very easy to keep your face fresh looking and at your best all day (or all evening!). By carrying just a few essentials you can ensure your visage stays perfect! Here are my ‘must have’ products:

LIPSTICK / LIPGLOSS:  I always carry a ‘universal color’ routinely in my handbag (ie: a color that will go with any outfit I’m wearing). A good color is one that is not too far away from your natural lip color. Of course, if I am wearing a bright lip color, I always make sure I have that particular one with me for touch ups throughout the day; however, worst case scenario, I know I always have my ‘go to’ color with me.

Great universal lip colors are:

–        Midimauve lipstick by MAC

–        Miss Delta lipgloss by Proof Cosmetics

PRESSED POWDER:  This is a must, especially if you are inclined to become shiny or indeed it’s a hot day and you’re perspiring (especially now as we come back into warmer weather again). This product will keep you picture perfect all day. The secret is to get a powder that is of a very fine grade, this will mean the powder will be invisible on your skin, but will beautifully keep your foundation in place all day.

My picks are:

–        Paula’s Choice Healthy Finish Pressed Powder

–        Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder

BLUSH:  This always gives skin a ‘pick me up’, adding color and vitality to the face. Apply it in an upward motion from the cheek to the ear. Powder blush has more staying power than cream blush.

My picks are:

–        Prism by MAC

–        Timber by Kryolan (it’s actually an eyeshadow, but it’s a fabulous blush color!)

MASCARA:  Adding a couple of extra coats to your lashes can add a bit of drama and help open up your eyes and make them pop.

My favourite mascara is:  L’Oreal Lash Architect or MAC Zoomblack

TWEEZERS / COTTON TIPS  –  These are a great to have handy, having your tweezers in your handbag means you can get rid of any unwanted facial hair (stray brows, or the odd annoying one on your chin) the minute you see it (which seems to happen when you’re checking your face in the rear vision mirror of the car!). Having cotton tips  are fabulous for removing any eye makeup that may have gone ‘out of bounds’ or any mascara that might have accidentally hit the skin around your lash line, also great for quickly fixing up any eyeliner that may have smudged too.

So there you go, having these 5 essentials in your handbag, you will always look your best!
