Skin care in a jar - things you should know

Skin care in a jar – whilst the look of them is often beautiful and the weight gives them a luxurious feel, every time you open the jar the ingredients are exposed to air and oxidise (particularly antioxidants, vitamin c and retinol) – rendering your anti-ageing product that you may have paid a small fortune for (in the case of products like La Mer) not much more than a basic moisturiser.

What you need to look for is packaging that is airtight – pumps are particularly good, or a tube with a very small opening (swipe to see what I mean). The reason cosmetic companies continue to package in jars is due to consumers preferring the look and feel of a jar, not realising what this does to the ingredients.
