Winners of this year’s Melbourne Cup Emerging Designer Award - one of my favourite design duos to work with! - ‘Birdskin’

As a makeup artist I get to work with many greats in the industry - and the design duo of ‘Birdskin’ is no exception. Luke and Ali out did themselves for this years Melbourne Cup, taking out the Emerging Designer Award for 2020 - you can see why above!!
I first worked with them on a shoot we did in a gorgeous antique shop, tucked away in an Art Deco building overlooking Chapel St, Melbourne. It was a fabulous day, the location itself filled with tens of thousands of dollars of antique furniture, artwork and time pieces (like entering the boudoir of one of the most in demand, gorgeous courtesans in Paris in the late 1800’s!!) . Myself, Victoria (who teaches Hairstyling for me) and stylist Mel Maier worked with Luke and Ali of Birdskin, along with photographer Carmen Rose to produce the most stunning photos of a “Marie Antoinette” themed shoot.
To have the privilege to work with such a talented team, without ego, with complete synergy of ideas and creativity was a total joy, and one that reminds me why I love what I do so much! Days like this are never work.
So happy to see Luke and Ali recognised for their extremely high quality designs, newness of ideas and stunning use of fabrics and textures - very well deserved award, especially in such a highly competitive fashion world. Congratulations to Birdskin - can’t wait to work with you again, and can’t wait to see what new and magical pieces you both create!
