My Makeup students chosen to be involved in YSL advertising campaign

I was recently contacted by a company who were contracted by YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) Makeup, to organise and run an advertising campaign on their behalf. I was asked to put forward students who I thought would be appropriate for this work.

This is a great example of what happens when you have the ability to apply makeup to a high industry standard, as opposed to merely following makeup fads on social media! YSL is looking for makeup artists that are consistent with their brand, understand it and know how to apply makeup that meets their expectations.

I hand chose 15 students to be put forward for consideration. Each of these students then had to submit work to the company to prove they have what it takes. From my perspective, I’m not only looking at makeup ability; certainly this is very important, however after 20 years in the business, I know that attitude, ability to follow a brief, professionalism, reliability and enthusiasm are all equally as important as your artistic ability - and this is precisely what I looked for when choosing the students I would give this opportunity to. I must say, that I can quickly ascertain these qualities in the class room within a very short time frame of someone starting one of my courses, it is something I take very seriously and when I see these qualities in a student, I know they will go far and have what it takes to be successful.

Out of the 15 I put forward, all 15 of them were chosen by the company to participate further in the campaign; each student was personally mailed out a beautiful box of full size YSL products to create 3 looks from. Over the coming months, one makeup artist will be chosen by YSL to be personally mentored by their director of makeup - Bianca Downward.

So overall I am so proud of my students - to see them come to the attention of such a high end, industry respected and globally sought after brand as YSL, gives me enormous pride and pleasure, not only to be in the position to offer this to my students, but to see them excited, doing their best and being rewarded for it.

Below is a small example of the work that was submitted by my students:

1) Makeup by Lucy Ryan Wilson 2) Makeup by Katryna Cooke 3) Makeup by Bianca Magyar 4) Makeup by Candice Gibbs
