Iconic Makeup and Hair looks from Alexander McQueen (exhibition now on at the NGV in Melbourne)
Recently I went along to see the exhibition of the late designer Alexander McQueen at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia.
So inspiring!!!
Alexander McQueen was a fashion designer known for his avant-garde designs and theatrical runway shows that challenged conventions and pushed boundaries. In addition to his innovative clothing designs, McQueen was also known for his striking hair and makeup looks that were an integral part of his runway shows.
McQueen's hair and makeup looks were often designed by some of the most talented artists in the industry, who collaborated closely with the designer to create looks that complemented his designs and added to the overall impact of his shows. Some of the notable hairstylists and makeup artists who worked with McQueen include Guido Palau, Eugene Souleiman, and Pat McGrath.
One of McQueen's most memorable hair and makeup looks was the "bird's nest" hair and dramatic eye makeup from his Spring/Summer 2010 show, titled "Plato's Atlantis." The hair, designed by hairstylist Guido Palau, featured voluminous, textured tresses that were styled to resemble a bird's nest, while the makeup, designed by Pat McGrath, featured bold, graphic eye makeup with black liner and metallic accents.
Another iconic hair and makeup look from McQueen's shows was the sculptural hair and minimal makeup from his Fall/Winter 2009 show, titled "Horn of Plenty." The hair, designed by hairstylist Eugene Souleiman, was styled into towering sculptural shapes that were reminiscent of horns, while the makeup, also designed by Pat McGrath, was minimal and understated, with a focus on luminous, glowing skin.
Overall, McQueen's hair and makeup looks were as innovative and boundary-pushing as his clothing designs, and his collaborations with some of the most talented hairstylists and makeup artists in the industry helped to create some of the most iconic and memorable runway looks of all time.
I highly recommend visiting this exhibition if you’re in Melbourne!
