How much time to allow for makeup on a Wedding Day?

I always allow myself one hour per person plus an extra hour overall (this allows for set up and pack up time, or if I get a bit held up for some reason - eg: bridesmaid hasn’t arrived yet).

It’s really important to have a watch on and really keep track of the time as you’re working. If you’re chatting and stop working, it’s really easy to loose considerable amounts of time without realising it. Next thing you’re down to the wire and having to rush as the photographer has arrived and you’re not finished. This is the worst feeling, you can’t do your best work (now you don’t have time to be a perfectionist), time pressure is now intense and everyone is waiting on you.

In my experience if you make someone sit in a makeup chair for much longer than an hour, they tend to get fidgety and now you’re trying to makeup a moving target! Also you can run the hairdresser behind if you’re taking ages with makeup - these are things to be mindful of when you’re working.

👉 Really keep track of the time and really keep to your schedule = beautiful makeup / bridal party ready on time / happy photographer / booked again!
